This Season’s Work

Here in Stowe, Vermont this year, March came in like a lamb and is going out like a lion. This morning it was eleven degrees when I poured my first cup of coffee, and it seems we should have a high reading of only fifteen degrees.

Today will be a pause of the sap flowing in the maple trees as it has been throughout March with its much warmer weather. The ground, after being thawed, is again covered in white, the sky grey with very light flakes of snow falling from it, and the shallow ponds and brooks gathering ice again across their surfaces.

The past year, for me, has been filled with a steady expansion of my photographic images. Several mornings spent on foot with camera in hand exploring the granite quarries in Graniteville, Vermont, many afternoons on my e-bike riding the back roads of northern Vermont, long days in the new sprinter van traveling across the United States and back as well as numerous days, since December, gliding along the groomed cross-country and ungroomed back-country trails Vermont is famous for.

Every day there is something different to view and experience, something different to try to capture with my lens.

I have had the great fortune, also, this past year to be able to show some of my work in the library at Newtown, Connecticut, Manchester’s Southern Vermont Art Center, Stowe’s Current Art Center, Morrisville’s River Arts Center, Waterbury’s Axel’s Gallery, the Woodland Baking & Coffee in Stowe, and Barre’s Studio Place Arts Gallery as well as my own home studio here in Stowe.

This upcoming summer, I will be showing some of my new work at the Barn Gallery on West Hill in Stowe along with a group I’ve been a part of for several years called The Photographers Workroom, a group of eight area photographers. Look for our announcement of dates and time later this Spring.

I look forward to this new season of “shooting” and hope that I will be able to see and visit with many of you who are reading this.
